A portrait of the High King Kallor, again from Steven Erikson's 'Malazan Books of the Fallen' series.
Kallor in Toll the Hounds: 'Does it occur to any of you, what these things do to me? No, of course not. The High King is cursed to fail, but never to fall. The High King is but... what? Oh, the physical manifestation of ambition. Walking proof of its inevitable price. Fine. Fuck you, too.'
Kallor is probably nearly as old as the human race in these books, brobably one of the first 'real' humans to roam the place. Since he's never described as anything neanderthal-like [which other people are] I always assumed him to look pretty much like an old, scary, sometimes overly confident, cursed guy. I spared myself the trouble of drawing lots of chainmail by doing just the face
I can't shake off the feeling that his face is a bit off to one side or another, something I can't grasp clearly.. It looks okay on the paper but a bit off on the screen.. Hm.. Not that Kallor is supposed to be a beauty, mind you, but it bugs me..
References were photos of the actors Steve Buscemi and Billy Drago.
Edit: worked a bit more on it, seems a bit better now - not that off anymore..
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
